Library Policies and Procedures

Policy handbook

Mission Statement

The Taymouth Township library dedicates itself to providing quality services such as books, other materials, programs, and facilities to enrich the lives of the patrons in the community.

Taymouth Township Library is in compliance with the Michigan Library Privacy Act Policy.  We preserve the privacy of circulation records of patrons to the fullest extent permitted by law.  The circulation records of the library shall be released or disclosed only as provided for herein.

Materials

The goal of selecting material is to provide collections that help meet the educational, informational cultural and leisure time needs of the patrons.

Ultimate responsibility for book selection rests with the Library Director who operates within the framework of the policies determined by the Township Board.

The library recognizes that some materials are controversial in nature and may offend some patrons.  However, disapproval of an item by one individual or a group of individuals will not deny the rights of access to that material by other individuals.

Books on controversial topics will be bought, but an attempt will be made to present a balanced selection that will cover all sides of an issue.

Library materials are not marked or labeled to indicate approval or disapproval of their contents.

The Library Director and staff have a responsibility to perform on-going weeding of the collection to remove worn, unused, and outdated books and materials from the shelves.

Material that is weeded from the collection will be kept for the library book sale or discarded.  Proceeds from the sale will be used for library purposes.

The library adheres to the ALA Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement.

Gifts and Donations

Gifts, donations, and bequests of money or any other property shall be given to Taymouth Township to be placed in the library budget.  Unless a designated special purpose accompanies the donation, gift or bequest, the Township Board may disburse the amount for any purpose which they deem the best interest for the library.  All gifts or donations of books or other library materials shall be accepted by the Library Director, with the understanding that such materials may be added to the collection, sold to benefit the library, given to another organization, or discarded.

Multipurpose Room

Taymouth Township Library has a multipurpose room available to the public for educational, recreational, cultural and civic purposes.

Library usage of the room will take precedence over other user requests.

The Multipurpose Room may be reserved during regular library hours and must be vacated and put back in its original state at least 15 minutes prior to closing.

Users shall not exceed the occupancy requirements (20 people) of the Multipurpose Room.

Light refreshments may be served but alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
